World Environment Day - 5th June 2023: Get up and close to Sloths in Costa Rica

This World Environment day, join us on a captivating live, virtual journey to a Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica, where children can embark on an adventure of discovery, empathy, and respect for earth's incredible biodiversity. Gain an awareness of how we can reduce our environmental footprint and learn to protect and conserve nature.

Nestled near the vibrant city of Cahuita, the Sloth Sanctuary stands as a beacon of hope and compassion for injured or orphaned sloths. You will meet rescued sloths and hummingbirds and also enter into a competition to design a postcard for the centre. Led by a passionate wildlife expert who has dedicated their life to the study of sloths and the avian wonders of Costa Rica, this interactive session promises to be an educational and enchanting experience about our precious biodiversity.

During your tour of the sanctuary, you'll have the opportunity to encounter a mesmerising variety of wildlife. Marvel at the vibrant hues of toucans, parrots, and macaws as they flit and soar through the lush foliage above. Listen to the haunting calls of owls that echo through the trees, their piercing eyes surveying their surroundings. You may be able to catch glimpses of spider monkeys swinging gracefully from branch to branch, displaying their acrobatic prowess.

Of course, the true stars of the sanctuary are the sloths themselves. As you stroll through the sanctuary's peaceful paths, your expert will introduce you to these gentle arboreal creatures that have captured the hearts of people worldwide. Learn fascinating facts about their unique adaptations, their slow-paced lifestyle, and the vital role they play in the ecosystem. 

Throughout the tour, children will have the opportunity to engage with the wildlife expert, asking questions and delving deeper into the wonders of sloths and the birds of Costa Rica. Whether inquiring about their behaviour, diet, or conservation efforts, every question will be met with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable response, fostering a sense of connection and curiosity among young participants.

By the end of the session, children will have gained a newfound appreciation for biodiversity and be inspired by the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to protect and rehabilitate them. They will have witnessed firsthand the importance of conservation and the delicate balance of nature in one of the world's most biodiverse regions.

At the end of the session, students will be invited to design a poster for the Sloth sanctuary. The best entries will be displayed at the centre for visitors to see.

This is a live, virtual, interactive group tour that accommodates up to 100 students from a school. You can book this session online on our website, or contact us on info@globefromhome.com to complete the booking.
