Overview

Lying on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, the oldest city that was originally Croatian is that of the charming Sibenik. With earliest mentions in 1066 AD, Sibenik is sure to take your breath away, particularly with its centuries of culture and history. In this virtual live session, we take you for a walk through the Old City in Sibenik to walk along its charming little alleyways and traverse through the pages of Croatian history. Join us to be fascinated by the sights this coastal town offers and you’ll see why we think it’s truly special.

Sibenik was naturally inclined to become a significant renaissance centre with its unique location of being in a safe natural harbour of the Adriatic Sea, bang on the estuary of River Krka. Its rich history, the stunning architecture and even its splendid coasts are sure to leave you mesmerised. As we walk through the Old City, our host fills you in on many stories from the little town’s past that almost seems like a fantasy. Some of the stories may be happy or heroic. Some may be inspiring, like those of artists and the like who succeeded in leaving their mark behind. While learning about life in the olden times in this great town of the Adriatic, you will probably hear stories of difficult times too, especially like the one of the plague ravaging through the town.

While strolling through the streets of Sibenik, you’ll easily identify it as a town from the medieval times, with fine stone architecture and intricate detailed masonry. They can be observed through the towering stone houses, cobbled streets and the numerous archways, staircases, churches and monasteries. We also arrive at St. James Cathedral to admire its magnificent architecture, which incidentally led it being named on the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.

The cosy little hamlet of Sibenik has so much for the discerning traveller to explore. Take this interactive session to see its charm and experience its stone beauty.
