Overview

Join schools from around the planet for the world’s first international virtual convention to celebrate United Nation’s World Day for Cultural Diversity on the 21st of May 2022

This is a free event that  aims to bring together more than 100,000 children from schools in different nations across a 26 hour event that will be beamed to over the million viewers.

The convention will include live cultural events, destination tours, talks from leaders and, most importantly, the opportunity for networking between students from different countries.

 Background

In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity to reaffirm their conviction that intercultural dialogue was the best guarantee to world peace. It recognised that three quarters of the world’s major conflicts have a cultural dimension. Bridging the gap between cultures was necessary not only for peace and stability, but also for poverty reduction, sustainability, and our intellectual and emotional growth as a race.

Following on from this, in December 2002 the UN General Assembly declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue & Development to create an opportunity for the world to understand the value of cultural diversity and living together in harmony.

 Why this convention matters:

At Globe From Home, we are on a mission to open up the world for children and provide them with critical early-learning through live, interactive virtual sessions. In doing so, we aim to help them appreciate our rich global cultural diversity and equip them with social and empathetic skills to help them become global citizens.

During this international convention we are bringing together students from around the world to represent and showcase their indigenous cultures, meet children from other countries, and travel the world virtually together. The event will be live for 26 hours with the schedule making provisions for children from each country to put up a cultural showcase for 15 minutes each.

We aim to align with UNESCO’s vision of facilitating intercultural exchanges which will highlight both the diversity and our commonality as humankind.
