The Pyramids of Giza have enchanted many a traveler for its massive size. A architectural marvel from the ancient times, the Pyramids are bound to amaze people visiting it. If you think you can gauge its size by looking at postcards or images on the internet that show all the three Pyramids, you are grossly mistaken. These original skyscrapers seem to dwarf people, camels or even the nearby city of Cairo that can be glimpsed in the distance. Join our expert Egyptologist as we take you on a tour to explore the Pyramids from up close and also visit the neighbouring Sphinx.

Nearly 4500 years ago, the Pharaohs ruling Egypt believed they would be gods in their next lives, and made it a practice to build pyramid tombs for themselves that held everything they would need in the afterlife. There are three among those that have stood apart by their sheer enormity and together form the Great Pyramids of Giza. Our host lets us in on historical tales from the ancient era and how this engineering feat could possibly have been achieved in those days, while walking around these Pyramids and the plateau nearby. You would also get a glimpse of what the Pyramids looks like from the inside.

As we walk onto the plateau perfect for all sorts of photo opportunities with the Pyramids, the limestone structure of the Sphinx is hard to miss. A lion with a Pharaoh’s head, the Egyptian Sphinx is believed to be from the same era as the Pyramids, and built as part of an elaborate temple complex with other statues. The Sphinx has had a tumultuous history and was nearly buried up to its shoulders, until as late as the 1930s, when it was finally freed of sand. Though it faces deterioration thanks to the elements of weather, the Sphinx still remains one of the best known icons of Egypt.

Children will particularly admire how advanced the ancient Egyptians were, and will be keen to listen to our Egyptologist who shell outs one spellbinding story after another from the ancient times.
