The Great East Asian Cook-Off with Pamela Chen

East Asian cooking masterclass for teaching staff.

Duration : 60 mins     Max Size : 50     Destination : Taiwan

Category : Globe From Home for Teachers     Recommended For : Schools

Subject :

Overview

Join this online master-class on the essentials of East Asian cooking with chef Pamela Chen which ends with an exciting virtual cook-off where you will battle for your place at the head of the Chef’s table. (You are free to invite friends and family to egg you on. Pun not intentional)

The first half of this 60 minute session will introduce you to the basics of oriental cooking covering ingredients, rules and skills required for East Asian cooking. (This includes cutting skills). You will learn to make a starter (Carrot & Beans sprouts salad), a main ( a choice between Taiwanese poached salmon or Stir fry broccoli) and fried noodles

In the second half of the session, you will be expected to put your learnings to practical use as you engage in a virtual cook off against your teammates, under the watchful eye of Pamela who will judge you on the basis of several factors including preparation skills, cooking method and final presentation. Being a virtual session, it is obviously not possible for Pamela to judge you on taste, but her years of experience are enough to help her ‘judge the book by the cover’.

Your Presenter

  Pamela Chen

Pamela grew up in Taiwan but has lived her entire adult life in the UK. For over 20 years, Pamela’s British family and friends were captivated by the tastes and smells of the Oriental food she prepared and fascinated by watching her cook. Pamela loves to inspire people to create great-tasting homemade meals that are both quick and affordable to cook. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for oriental food and showing people of all ages that it really is one of the simplest and quickest cuisines to pick up… and cook up!

Pamela runs cookery classes to suit all skill levels, including workshops to suit dairy-free and gluten-free diets. Pamela particularly loves making magic with simple ingredients to create stunning vegetarian and vegan dishes. Pamela also enjoys sharing her observations and learnings of her two cultures—Taiwanese and British, looking into the small ordinary little things in life that are so different or so similar in different cultures.
Pamela has collaborated with cookery schools in the UK, appeared in live cookery shows, and given talks on oriental cultures internationally. Pamela is a regular contributor on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, sometimes cooking live on air! In 2017, Pamela was invited onboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 as a guest speaker and guest chef and has been doing so annually on QM2, as well as Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria’s World Voyages. Pamela has also spoken and been a guest chef on four World Voyages on Seabourn cruise ships.
