Overview

Get ready for a fun, interactive and live-streamed cooking demonstration that children will surely enjoy. And since it’s focused on students learning Mandarin, this session will largely be held in Mandarin. What’s more, it is being conducted by a local chef from China who will teach children to make some authentic Chinese dishes. If the children would like to participate in a cook-along under the chef’s guidance, they just need to arrange for the ingredients beforehand.

Chinese cuisine has found popularity all the over the world, with many regions even customising it to suit their tastes (Indo-Chinese, Chino-Latino anyone?). Interestingly, Chinese cooking techniques and seasonings were originally influenced not just by the region’s history and ethnicity of course, but by their mountains, rivers, deserts and forests too. Although there are many distinctions between food from various regions of China, it will probably take a native or a true connoisseur to tell the difference. For most other people, Chinese cooking typically involves a few common ingredients such as ginger, garlic, soy sauce, rice, noodles, tofu, sesame and green onions among others.

Today’s session will be easy for children to follow and will use simple ingredients. You may not necessarily need to find a wok, or use chopsticks to enjoy cooking or eating this meal. But we are certain students will learn how to cook an easy authentic Chinese dish, while expressing themselves in Mandarin to interact with the chef.
