If you’re looking for a tour to learn a little about the central Asian countries, and see how Caucasian history developed over the centuries, Tbilisi is a perfect start. This Georgian capital is a melting pot of cultures with people of various religious denominations – like Christianity, Islam and Judaism; and of various nationalities – such as Georgians, Armenians, Azerbaijanians, Greek and many more, live in perfect harmony with each other. Join us on a walking tour of Tbilisi and experience this city through a live interactive tour with our host who is a native of the country.

The Georgian capital of Tbilisi is a very old city that is believed to have existed from the 5^th century AD, when it was founded by the Iberian King Vakhtang Gorgasali. Legend goes that he was hunting in the region with his falcon, and as his mighty bird swooped on a pheasant, it accidentally fell in the hot springs causing both victims to die of the scalding waters. The King was so impressed with these sulphur waters, he decided to call the place ‘Tbilisi’, meaning warm place, and made it his capital. Since then, there have been plenty of other conquerors with the Arabs ruling from 8^th – 12^th century, followed soon after by the Turks. Ottoman empire marked their territory here in the 16^th-18^th centuries and the Russians set foot in the 19^th century. Georgia has stood tall in the face of all these wars and conquests, and is now developing at a fast pace.

Our tour takes you around the Old Town of Tbilisi where you can easily spot multiple religious places of worship in close proximity with each other. We also pass by the dome-shaped sulphur baths as our guide lets us in some of the secrets of these fascinating structures. Look out for the mascot of the city, the sculpture of the pheasant that stands to tell the story of the city’s origin. We also take you along Jan Sharden Street with some cosy cafes, a Jewish Synagogue and an Orthodox Cathederal of Scion (XII c.).
