Arabic learning: Daily Life - Cook along with local children in Egypt

An exclusive opportunity for children from other countries to get together with children from Arab nations to cook a local dish and practise language.

Overview

In this special and exciting session, students will learn to prepare local Egyptian dishes from our local cookery expert, while also interacting with local children. Students will be able to cook along with local Egyptian children offering them an opportunity to practise their Arabic skills, and also form friendships.

At the start of the session, participating students will be introduced to the local children so they can get to know each other. The local cuisine expert will brief the group about Egyptian cuisine and dishes that are popular.  The expert will then teach the group to prepare a simple, yet popular Egyptian dish. (Students will be provided with a list of ingredients in advance. Those who do not wish to partake in the cooking can choose to watch the demo and interact).

Students will be paired on a one-on-one basis, so they can interact with each other as they prepare their dish. This is a great opportunity for visiting children to practise their Arabic skills and for the local students to use English.

At the end of the session, the whole group will convene (virtually, of course) to eat together and continue their interaction.

These sessions encourage interactivity  where students from both countries are paired on a one-on-one basis and required to work together on joint activities. As would be the case if students met on a real exchange program, they tend to form long term bonds across barriers on these sessions.
